The Fairness Doctrine aka Media Ownership Reform Act (MORA)

You should know about it. It’s being pushed by the likes of Democrat Senators John Kerry, Dick Durbin, John Dingell, Dennis Kucinish and Louise Slaughter. One of its most well known supporters is Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat, California.
They oppose the successes of Talk Radio and want Conservative radio talk to be shut down.
It is disguised by the word “fairness”, just as the killing of unborn babies is disguised by the nice word of “choice’.
The success of Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk show radio hosts and the failure of liberals to achieve similar success is the underlying motivation behind Democrat efforts to re-impose the Fairness Doctrine on all of us.
It started out as a Federal Communications Commission policy that required radio and television stations to provide equal time on matters of public importance. Those stations which did not do so ran the risk of losing their broadcast license.
Conservative talk radio has been hugely profitable while liberal talk radio has not and that is due to a basic reason, it supplies a market demand that was otherwise unmet. Listeners turn to conservative talk shows to meet that need. Listeners mean ratings and ratings mean advertisers.
We all recall a recent radio station talk show station, Air America and them going belly up along with their pride host, Al Franken, Democrat now running for office in Minnesota.
In the 109th Congress 2005-2007 Representative Maurice Hinchey, D New York, introduced legislation to restore the Fairness Doctrine. H.R. 3302 also known as the “MEDIA OWNERSHIP REFORM ACT of 2005, (MORA). It had 16 co-sponsors in Congress. The 110th Congress 2007-2009 had no legislation to restore the Fairness Doctrine. Senator Norm Coleman, R. Minnesota proposed an amendment to a defense appropriations bill that forbade the FCC from using any funds to adopt a fairness rule but it was blocked, in part, on grounds that the amendment belonged in the Commerce Committees jurisdiction.
I wonder where this will all go in the near future as the country appears to be strong in support of Democrat leadership, November 2008?

In God We Trust

Odd thing, the new Presidential dollar coins have In God We Trust removed from the face of the coin and moved it onto the coins edge. Could we say we have pushed God onto the edge?

License Plates in Minnesota

The State of Minnesota has replaced the state traditional raised letter/number vehicle license plates with similar looking license plates and the change is not for the better.
I can imagine that they are much cheaper to manufacture as they avoid the costly stamping of the assigned license number and have replaced it with a simple printing on a flat surface. They still contain the holograms and reflectorized paint. The painting of the numbers presents a problem to law enforcement and anyone else who may try to read the numbers in our salt/snow /ice climate that we often experience here in Minnesota winter.
A salt snow spray accumulation will quickly cover the plate and obscure the ability to read the numbers. When the numbers are raised, a similar salt spray covering is not able to hide readability of the number.
It won’t be long until the DOT hears from police departments and others across the state regarding the problem. I would think that those responsible for the change would look into why those numbers have been raised for so many years before making such a big change.

RACISM IS A FACTOR

The Kevin Diaz story 10-10 in the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports a high participation of black voters in the November election and describes those who are campaigning for Barack Obama.
http://www.startribune.com/politics/state/30725264.html?elr=KArksUUUU
It looks like the general population is split half and half for the presidential candidates and that goes for the white communities across the nation. On the other side of the issue it appears as though black communities are not so equally divided as the black communities are overwhelmingly supportive of Barack Obama.
This action indicates that racisms is most certainly an issue in the presidential race and in a way that many are not equipped to accept.
Quotes from the story, “But then, from the mouth of a little girl on a tricycle up the street: "Who's going to vote for Barack Obama?" she yells, pumping her fist. "He's black!", “For Pattersen, trying to enlarge the black vote, one of the most immediate challenges is the public housing project across the street from the church in St. Paul's traditionally black Rondo neighborhood.”

Toilet Paper

Why is it always white?..... Why not Mauve, Sky Blue or even multicolor?
The rolls could even have phototgraphs of some politicians. If they had politicians then there could be racks in the stores by political choice such as party affiliation.
Can you imagine the talking points that would go on at a big party later on in the evening?
In all fairness it would have to be changed every hour or so as to not disfavor any certain party. :)
